What is cultural mandate?
Ps. kong belives that God has called us to understand and go into the CULTURE of the people to influence them.
The cultural mandate is the belief that we are to bring
God’s truth to bear upon every area of human society, from arts and literature, to politics, to government, to economics, to the schools,
to scientific progress, and so on.
During the era when the Beatles was making a huge impact on the world,
John Wimber was a charismatic pastor who brought many many lives
to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Little do people know that he was also one of the best
record producer of his times.
The Beatles wanted him to be their producer but he rejected their offer
due to the church’s concern. They believed that it was not right
for John to be involved with the ‘worldly’ Beatles.
Now consider if John had accepted the offer…
Beatles would have been changed, the world would have been changed!
The community’s reaction towards the world:
1) Cooconing
Many Christians withdraw and isolate themselves from the unholy world.
However, this is not the will of God.
Christ stated in John 17:15-18
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world
but that you protect them from the evil one.
They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
What Jesus wants of us is discernment, not disassociation.
2) Combating
Other Christians fight, resist or oppose people the world.
They looked down upon people, even Christians who pierce their noses,
oppose people who dress in a certain way…
But God stated in His word – John 3:17
Because God sent the Son into the world,
not to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
3)Conforming
However, compromising with wicked values are not to be accepted.
As much as we embrace the culture of the world, we must must
hold on tight to the spiritual disciplines and Godly values.
In the book of Daniel,
the king was looking for outstanding youg people to service him.
He had certain requirements for them:
Young men without any physical defect, handsome,
showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed,
quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king's palace.
He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.
Daniel 1:4
Daniel had to learn
1. The Culture of Babylon
2. The Language of Babylon
3. The fashion of Babylon
4. Adopt the names of Babylon Gods
(David’s name was Belteshazzar which later evovled to Baal)
Now don’t you think followers of Jehovah during that time would oppose to David wearing heavy makeups, dressing like the rich men, having the name of a Babylonian God!!!
But Danile had proven himself and in verse 20:
In every matter of wisdom and understanding
about which the king questioned them, he found them( Daniel)
ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.
Daniel was made the chief MAGICIAN, enchanters, astrologers
and diviners.
Bible scholars believed that the Magai who visited Jesus
were Daniel’s magician people.
They came to the Messiah through the ministry of Daniel.
Proverbs 22:29
Do you see a man skilled in his work?
He will serve before kings;
he will not serve before obscure men.
God has made us to stand before kings!
In all these, Daniel kept his consecration.
Daniel 1:8
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.
We as Christians ought to be
SAVVY ABOUT FAITH
SAVVY ABOUT CULTURE
and skilled at realting the two.
SAVVY ABOUT CULTURE
and skilled at realting the two.
We are to build our lives on spiritual discipline.

A failure in character is a failure to maintain spiritual discipline.
